Quite revolutionary changes are being seen in the field of agriculture in Gaya district of Bihar state. The crops which are currently becoming extinct, now seem to be making a comeback. All this is possible only because of the hard work of the farmers there. That is why farmers have again started cultivating coarse grains, which are considered a panacea for health. While this crop was almost lost from this district, but seeing the benefits and earnings from it, farmers have started cultivating sawa, millet and madua i.e. ragi.
Sawna is being cultivated in 25 acres in the district.
Currently, Sawna crop is flourishing in 25 acres of Guraru block of Gaya district, the land which once looked barren, now the experiment of cultivation of coarse grains on the same land seems to be quite successful. Many farmers of this block have started cultivating Sawna in 25 acres cluster area with the help of Agriculture Department. Now its harvesting will also start in a few days. Apart from this, many farmers are also cultivating millet and madua by creating cluster centres. The Agriculture Department is also encouraging farmers for this.

Eating coarse grains has many benefits for the body. Eating it is beneficial in many serious diseases including diabetes. Eating this strengthens the bones. Because it is rich in protein and calcium. Along with this, there is a lot of demand for millets in the international market, because the United Nations had declared 2023 as the Year of Millets to cultivate these crops.
To encourage farmers to grow coarse grains and promote it, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officers go to the farmers’ fields, which boosts the morale of the farmers growing coarse grains. At the same time, agriculture officers reach the fields and appreciate the efforts of the farmers, so that they can be encouraged.
The sub-divisional agriculture officer of Gaya district said that in order to become self-reliant in the production of coarse grains, gram, lentil, maize and oilseed crops, mustard, sugarcane, farmers will get an incentive amount of Rs 2 thousand per acre in their banks after planting seeds and crops at cheap rates. There is a provision to give it in the account. The government has taken this step so that farmers take interest in the production of such crops along with main crops like paddy and wheat and earn better income. Block Agriculture Officer said that people can improve their health by including coarse grains and millets crop crops in their diet, because coarse grains are rich in protein and fiber.
